Wonderful nose of rich blackberry and raspberry fruit with lovely complex, fresh, peppery notes. The palate has dense, firm fruit with edgy tannins and good acidity, as well as savoury clove and pepper character. It’s a really lively wine with a nice combination of intense fruit and savoury spiciness. Drink 2011-2018.

Is built for the long haul - boldly coloured, with dense, spicy, nutty flavours, complex, firm and sustained.

Has an introspective nose, more dried herb characters: bay leaf and thyme all with excellent definition and a hint of peppermint developing. The palate is medium-bodied, firm tannins, again quite introspective with that dried herb character coming through. A dash of white pepper on the poised finish that displays fine tannins and great focus. Moderate length. Coy - but give this time to unfurl.

Stunning wine with a heady perfume that includes lovely floral notes.
Very elegant red with ripe berryfruit flavours interwoven with Oriental spices.
It has a great texture and extraordinary power.

Man O’ War’s Dreadnought Syrah from Waiheke Island is a potential classic in the making. The 2008 was a revelation at this year’s New Zealand Syrah Symposium, showcasing peppered meat, brambly fruit and plenty of richness without excessive weight.

“One of the most exciting wines I have tasted in the past 12 months”.

14% alcohol. Power comes from the Madmans and Asylum vineyards; finesse from the Lunatis and North3. Aromatic and lively with clove, spice and pepper notes, as well as some floral character. The palate is fresh and bright with raspberry and dark cherry fruit as well as some spiciness, together with high acidity. Very fresh and bright with real complexity. Thrilling. 95/100
