Shaped by the rugged, stunning and diverse land on which they are grown, and blended by our team with unrivalled passion we invite you to enjoy the wines of Man O’ War. Man O’ War wines are presented in two collections.
Our Flagship - Black Label Range of Ironclad Bordeaux Blend, Dreadnought Syrah, Valhalla Chardonnay and Gravestone Sauvignon Semillon, convey layers of complexity, structure and ageing potential. The name of each wine reflects its own unique and inherent nature and it’s foundation in Man O’ War.
Ironclad Bordeaux Blend: Named in honour of the 19th century warships characterized by the iron armour bolted on to their wooden hulls Ironclad is crafted from our finest iron rich clay hillside vineyards to create our flagship property blend.
Dreadnought Syrah - The first in a line of 20th century battleships bestowed with the motto ‘Fear God and Dread Nought’ and embodying a supreme combination of speed and power, Dreadnought is grown on our steepest and most breathtaking hillside Syrah vineyards.
Valhalla Chardonnay: the shining and golden hall in Norse Mythology where the souls of fallen Viking warriors chosen by Odin feasted with the gods, the name Valhalla is conferred upon our finest barrels of Chardonnay selected each vintage by our winemaker. Gravestone Sauvignon Semillon: Surrounded by boulders of the Stony Batter our Gravestone vineyards, this title also reflects that Gravestone has it’s foundations in the Bordeaux Graves style.
While our Man O' War - White Label range expresses varietal character and fruit vibrancy in a classical style. The Man O’ War Bordeaux blend may vary in proportions year to year of Merlot, Cabernet franc, Malbec and Cabernet sauvignon, but it is always focused on sumptuous fruit with a ripe tannin structure.
Man O’ War Syrah is densly packed with dark berries and savoury notes, sweet fruit, vibrant acidity and ripe tannins.
Our Sauvignon blanc is based on the wines that first put New Zealand wine on the world stage; dry, clean and crisp with a pungency of fruit characters.
Man O’ War Chardonnay is focused and feminine showcasing the minerality of the vineyards.
While our Pinot Gris, from Ponui Island, tends towards a drier style; it has subtle lees and barrel complexity with spice and white pepper. |
